So it’s update time on cc+mike do the One Room Challenge – Breakfast Nook on a Budget Style. Mike Miller is SO excited to be participating in this and by participating in this I mean he has no clue what is going on and we are getting on a plane to San Francisco in 24 hours. We are going to be away from our kids for the longest period of time we have ever left them since becoming parents 11 years ago—5 nights. OK I’m going to pause this One Room Challenge to ask anyone and everyone reading this who has been to San Francisco to leave me some love. Here’s the deal you guys….this is how cc+mike plan trips.
“Oh my gosh…we have a babysitter willing to stay with our kids for 5 days. Should we go somewhere?”
“Yeah where do you want to go?” asks Mike Miller.
“I don’t know where do you want to go?” (internally thinking to myself please let it be Portland or San Francisco because I’ve been dying to go there).
Two months pass and we book nothing. Because this is what we do.
So we are sitting in our office today and are all, “So I guess we better book that trip if we are going.” And Mike Miller gets on and books it with 48 hours notice. I don’t know you guys. This is just how we work. We aren’t planners and last minute always seems to work best for us. So all that to say…we have no hotel, not plans, and no idea what we are going to do. So leave me some love if you’ve ever been to San Fran and give me that must do list. Pretty please and thank you!
OK back to the One Room Challenge. So my sister found some thrift store chairs at one of her favorite digs in Edmond while we were in the building process. We both saw the potential, even thought they were covered in a hideous fabric and had at least 7 coats of paint that needed to be stripped off. They have been sitting in our warehouse for over a year.
Now if you read our blog post last week about the ONE ROOM CHALLENGE, you know that I had a gorgeous, but expensive room designed for our nook area in our new house. Mike Miller nixed that idea so now I’m making him do the One Room Challenge with me. I’m using thrift store items, things I already had, and doing some DIY projects. First off, I had to strip these chairs. You guys….WOW. This was no freaking joke. Stripping one chair took me hours. There were literally 5 or 6 coats of paints on these chairs. I would strip through one layer then there would just be another color waiting for me. So…I’m not gonna lie. After doing one chair, I made a phone call and found a nice gentleman in North Tulsa to do the other chairs for me. I can not wait to show you the afters of these with the natural wood and the clear coat on them. I also chose a gorgeous Ralph Lauren fabric for the seats. They are going to be SO AWESOME.
So that’ all for Week 2. I have to go pack from San Francisco. Maybe I’ll find some treasures to bring back while I’m there that I can use in my breakfast nook on a budget.
